If you drop the deathbringer in melee form to another player, they have to swap it to melee (while it is melee in their hands) then swap again to get the rifle. (total of 2 "changing modes" you had to do.)
According to tango the melee form will shoot like a rifle still when its in melee visual form (if dropped in melee form).
