It's an unfortunate side effect. There is a max time window where this wont happen, but it tries to be fair to both sides. On their screen they shot you too(obviously). It's either this or shitboxes.
(also noticing now it was a shotgun, sometimes the shots can be delayed due to net message spam prevention)
